Ingredients:
Prepare Yeast Mixture:
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon Mauripan yeast
In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and Mauripan yeast. Stir well and wait for the mixture to froth.
Prepare Dry Ingredients:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- A pinch of salt
- (Optional) a pinch of bread improver
In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients - all-purpose flour, olive oil, salt, and bread improver if available.
Combine and Knead:
- Gradually add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
- Knead the mixture until the dough is smooth and doesn't stick to your hands. Add the yeast mixture gradually to achieve the right consistency.
Let the Dough Rise:
- Take a large bowl, spread oil inside, and place the kneaded dough.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
Punch Down and Divide:
- After the dough has risen, punch it down to release air.
- Divide the dough into 6-7 small balls.
Shape and Second Rise:
- Roll each ball into a round shape, pressing it flat to about 0.5cm thickness.
- Allow the shaped dough to rise for a second time.
Optional: Add Cheese or Garlic:
- If desired, add cheesedale or garlic on top of the flattened dough.
- Fold it back into a round shape and press it flat again. Let it rise for the second time.
Cooking:
- Cook the naan on a non-stick pan over medium heat until both sides are golden brown.
Enjoy your delicious homemade Naan bread!
