Naan Bread Recipe

Naan Bread Recipe - Step by Step

Ingredients:

  1. Prepare Yeast Mixture:

    • 1 1/4 cups warm water
    • 1 tablespoon sugar
    • 1 tablespoon Mauripan yeast

In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and Mauripan yeast. Stir well and wait for the mixture to froth.

  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients:

    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • A pinch of salt
    • (Optional) a pinch of bread improver

In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients - all-purpose flour, olive oil, salt, and bread improver if available.

  3. Combine and Knead:

    • Gradually add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
    • Knead the mixture until the dough is smooth and doesn't stick to your hands. Add the yeast mixture gradually to achieve the right consistency.
  4. Let the Dough Rise:

    • Take a large bowl, spread oil inside, and place the kneaded dough.
    • Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
  5. Punch Down and Divide:

    • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release air.
    • Divide the dough into 6-7 small balls.
  6. Shape and Second Rise:

    • Roll each ball into a round shape, pressing it flat to about 0.5cm thickness.
    • Allow the shaped dough to rise for a second time.
  7. Optional: Add Cheese or Garlic:

    • If desired, add cheesedale or garlic on top of the flattened dough.
    • Fold it back into a round shape and press it flat again. Let it rise for the second time.
  8. Cooking:

    • Cook the naan on a non-stick pan over medium heat until both sides are golden brown.
