Thosai Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup urad dal (black gram)
  • 1 cup cooked rice or
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon Mauripan yeast
  • Salt
  • 3 cups water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Urad Dal and Rice:

    • Wash urad dal and soak it for 5-6 hours. Blend it with cooked rice until smooth.
  2. Add Salt:

    • Add a pinch of salt to the blended mixture.
  3. Prepare Batter:

    • In a separate bowl, mix the blended mixture with water, rice flour, and Mauripan yeast. Stir well to form a batter.
  4. Ferment the Batter:

    • Allow the batter to ferment overnight, covering it with a lid or cloth to help it rise.
  5. Grease the Pan:

    • Grease a flat skillet or dosa pan with a little cooking oil.
  6. Cook the Thosai:

    • Pour a ladle of the fermented batter onto the pan.
    • Spread it out evenly to form a thin layer, allowing the bottom to crisp up. Then, cover it with a lid.
  7. Roll or Fold:

    • Once the thosai is cooked, you can either roll or fold it.
  8. Serve:

    • Your thosai is now ready to be served.
